I have a terrible ant infestation in my house, and there’s a terrible ANT [automatic negative thoughts] infestation in our country that’s driving anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. ANTs are the automatic negative thoughts that ruin your day, steal your happiness, and prolong grief.We need to fights ANTs... 

...Just because you have a thought has nothing to do with whether it is true. Thoughts lie. They lie a lot, and it is your uninvestigated or unquestioned thoughts that steal your happiness. If you do not question or correct your erroneous thoughts, you believe them, and you act as if they are 100% true. Allowing yourself to believe every thought you have is the prescription for anxiety disorders, depression, relationship problems, and prolonged grief.

You can learn to eliminate the automatic negative thoughts and replace them with more helpful thoughts that give you a more accurate, fair assessment of any situation. We are in a daily war against ANT and other infestations in the battlefield of sin and fear temptations from the world, the flesh, and the devil (see the Catechism of the Council of Trent). 

In this daily battle, I practice what I call the Presence of the Holy Family or the Presence of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I do this by putting myself in the Holy Family's presence as well as living as if there were only Jesus, Mary and Joseph and myself in world whenever I get sin or fear temptations from the world, the flesh, and the devil. I try to do this for at least a moment if I'm busy and longer during prayer time or times of leisure.

Also, the following paragraph from the book "Healing" has been very helpful for me in this practice:  

Catholics allow themselves to be derailed by not living in the present moment, by not trusting the past to God's Mercy and the future to God's providence - instead they live in a sort of virtual reality - an "if only I had" attitude - in the case of those living in the past - or a "what if" attitude - in the case of those preoccupied and generally freaked about the future. (Healing: Selections from the Sermons of Fr. Phil Wolfe FSSP, page 32)

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost - Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.
