Every knee shall bend and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but to bend the knee to anything less isn't feminine or masculine, isn't human, and isn't Catholic, either.


If Mike Pantile holds that we should avoid sending ourselves to Hell by taking up "the cross of obedience" (by which he means "ignoring " Pope Leo, "submitting ourselves" to human institutional Church authority, right or wrong, and staying above the fray by cowering beneath it, then what is he doing all over YouTube saying so?


Overcoming our own sins first and foremost, and taking care of the spiritual and temporal welfare of our families, as he recommends, cannot be accomplished by such means.  Succumbing to egregious deviations from Catholic orthodoxy as this mentality suggests, and which this mentality blasphemously baptizes in terminology that mere apostasy doesn't deserve, constitutes precisely a sin of our own (known as "human respect") and devastates our own family and friends through bad example.  

It is often said that during the Middle Ages you could conduct your entire Christian life without ever finding out what the Pope was doing and that, therefore, we ought to live like that now.  (Pantile calls taking up his self-serving "cross of obedience," in fact, being more "medieval.")   There are serious objections to be raised, both historically and theologically: historically, because saints and martyrs without advanced means of communication did seem to find things out eventually, and to respond and even object in no uncertain terms;  theologically, because there is a moral difference  between invincible ignorance and the elective variety.  

It is a mind-bendingly post-modern notion, in fact, that the "cross" can be relativized away from the truth, and that family life can flourish apart from acknowledged adherence--especially by fathers themselves, for whom the Pantiles of this world presume to speak---to the authentic teachings of the Church.  Every knee shall bend and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but to bend the knee to anything less isn't feminine or masculine, isn't human, and isn't Catholic, either.

Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.
