Roe is dead because Donald Trump won in 2016 and then appointed three justices. That is the real world. That is the timeline. Everything else you wrote is garnish designed to soothe one psychological itch, the need to say “Actually, I hate Trump, so please don’t associate this victory with him.” You can name Thomas and Alito until your keyboard melts. You can canonize Mitch McConnell. You can recite the entire history of the pro life movement like it’s the Martyrology. None of it changes the counterfactual that matters. If Hillary wins, she fills Scalia’s seat. If Hillary wins, she replaces Kennedy if he retires, and she replaces RBG when she dies. You do not get Dobbs. You get Roe fortified. You get Planned Parenthood gloating with the Supreme Court as its private security force. That is what you and every other “principled” NeverTrump scold were willing to risk so you could keep your moral manicure pristine. Biden won and gave us an affirmative action pick who can’t tell us what a woman is! Now imagine Kamala stacking two more. Every case gets decided by the same ideology that cannot define “woman.” So yes, Trump is the president under whom Roe fell. Cope. Your whole post is a bait and switch. You start with “do away with the myth” then quietly drift into “Trump did harm to the pro life movement” then you land on the punchline, the real reason you typed all this. “Trump is only somewhat better than the Democrats on abortion.” That line is not just wrong. It is deranged. The Democrats are the party of abortion as a sacrament. Nationalized abortion. Codified abortion. Funded abortion. Abortion tourism. Abortion till birth. You can dress it up with euphemisms, you can run interference with “healthcare” slogans, you can pretend it’s compassion. The reality is an industrial scale slaughter backed by courts, corporations, and bureaucrats, with Catholics in the party leadership smiling through it. Trump ended Roe. That is not a myth. It is the largest legal defeat the abortion regime has suffered in my lifetime. The side you keep minimizing would have enshrined Roe as permanent constitutional dogma. Here is the game you’re playing. You grab every debate inside the post Dobbs world, pile it up, then use it to retroactively smear the single decisive act that made the post Dobbs world possible in the first place. You talk like someone who has never once stared at the actual forks in the road we faced. One fork. Hillary/ Biden/ Kamala. The other fork. Trump. Pick one. No third option. No escape hatch where you get the perfect candidate, the perfect platform, the perfect judges, the perfect rhetoric, and you never have to hear an orange man say something crass. Politics is not spiritual direction. It’s triage in a fallen world. You people always do this. You demand a spotless instrument before you will support a good end. Then you guarantee the worst end. Then you write essays blaming the flawed instrument for not being flawless enough. Trump did not “lull pro lifers.” Trump delivered what pro lifers prayed for and marched for and fought for while your camp wrote essays about how voting for him would stain your conscience. Your camp was wrong. History buried your argument on the courthouse steps. Here is the blunt truth. Your rhetoric trains Catholics to think victories are embarrassing if Trump is attached to them. It trains them to feel shame about their own side winning. It trains them to talk like leftists. It makes them soft. It makes them unserious. It makes them useless in a fight that is not primarily about their personal refinement. You can keep trying to launder your Trump hatred into a “pro life strategy.” Nobody should fall for it. The Democrats would have preserved Roe and expanded it. The only “myth” here is the fantasy that your NeverTrump posturing has ever produced anything except Democratic power with a Catholic glaze. Roe fell on Trump’s watch because he built the court that killed it.

We really need to do away with this stupid myth of “Trump the Great Lone Slayer of Roe.” All that can be said is that he deserves some of the credit. But not most of it, and what credit he deserves is offset by the great harm he has otherwise done the pro-life movement. Consider:
