Is a “Satanic Family Tree” operating within the Catholic Church—a network that desperately needs to be mapped out?
The late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin is alleged by “Agnes” from Malachi Martin's Windswept House to have been the "Master of Ceremonies" in her ritualistic abuse. Rachel Mastrogiacomo has been told that Father Jacob Bertrand played the same role in the crimes against her. What links these violators?
Rachel’s own case has convinced her that Windswept House 2.0 is not merely a historical parallel. In her view, it is a reality unfolding before our eyes.
The Bernardin Connection
In the 1980s, allegations emerged involving Bernardin and fellow bishops Robert Brom and John Roach in connection with sexual assaults against seminarians at Immaculate Heart Seminary in the Diocese of Winona, Minnesota. At least two alleged victims pursued legal action, bringing allegations of abuse involving these churchmen into public view.
One victim alleged that the sexual assaults at the seminary involved satanic rituals. Rachel discusses these allegations extensively in her book, The Devil in Rome, and maintains that the material she presents is supported by documentation.
The middle photograph is particularly significant: Bishop Robert Brom himself—the man Rachel identifies as Bernardin’s close associate in the 1980s—is pictured ordaining Rachel’s ritual abuser, Father Bertrand.
As Bishop of San Diego, Brom would have had authority over Bertrand’s priestly formation and assignments. Rachel believes he also played a role in Bertrand’s eventual journey to Rome, where Bertrand allegedly targeted her for ritualistic purposes strikingly similar to those Agnes has now described.
One of the most disturbing patterns Rachel identifies in these allegations is the apparent distinction between the men’s sexual behavior and the women and girls allegedly targeted for ritualistic abuse.
The Master of Ceremonies
The part of Agnes’s statement that struck Rachel to her core was her description of Bernardin as the “master of ceremonies.”
This detail is chilling because Bernardin was reportedly a young priest when he presented Agnes to a bishop for ritualistic purposes.
That description immediately brought Rachel’s own case into focus.
Father Ripperger’s assistant, Kyle Clement, has consistently maintained that Father Bertrand occupied a similar role in Rachel’s situation. According to the interpretation shared with her, Bertrand was not necessarily the principal figure but rather the “master of ceremonies”—someone who believed he had found in Rachel the ideal candidate for ritualistic training and eventual presentation to a cardinal in the Vatican for what they described as a legitimate Black Mass.
The extraordinary nature of this interpretation is not lost on Rachel. Nevertheless, members of Father Ripperger’s team have examined her situation and, based on their interpretation of patterns they believe they have encountered in other cases involving female victims, including allegations involving nuns, have concluded that this was the likely trajectory of Rachel’s own experience.
The parallel is deeply disturbing. Bertrand, like Bernardin in Agnes’s account, appears in this interpretation to have occupied the role of facilitator: someone seeking advancement within the clerical hierarchy through a satanic pathway.
Had Bertrand succeeded in what Rachel believes he was attempting to accomplish through her, she believes he would have been promoted.
That is precisely why Rachel wrote in “The Devil in Rome” that she believes she may have taken out the “next Bernardin.”
“Bernardin, Bertrand, and the Satanic Family Tree: Connecting the Dots”
This is the clearest line uncovered thus far between Cardinal Joseph Bernardin and Father Jacob Bertrand. It makes Rachel Mastrogiacomo and “Agnes” appear almost like “cousins” in what Rachel describes as a “satanic family tree” operating within the Catholic Church—a network that desperately needs to be mapped out.

A Pattern That Demands Investigation
Rachel never imagined that the details of her own story would intersect so closely with Agnes’s testimony. Yet the parallels are difficult for her to ignore.
The names. The photographs. The alleged connections. The recurring role of a young priest acting as facilitator. The prospect of advancement through a network operating behind the scenes.
Rachel believes these connections warrant serious scrutiny and further investigation.
