Two of my favorite long time Catholic Monitor commenters apparently think I'm wrong to back Donald Trump. First, I'll give their take and then I'll give my response:

Unfortunately, Mr. Martinez I disagree with your analysis of Trump. I voted for him the first time because all the right people hated him. I voted for him the second time because I wanted to believe him and of course stop a Democrat from getting in. But, in this is huge for me....he gave us warp speed vaccine. And, do you have proof or links that clearly show he reduced funds to PP. I've read that he most certainly did not. And his first two years he had both the Senate and House to build the wall and defund PP. I think his whole presidency was kabuki theater.

Debbie - and Trump was the one who set the precedent that government has the right and authority to “shut down the economy” and remand private citizens to house arrest in the name of a government declared “emergency “.

We may disagree about length of lockdowns and severity ... Democrat Governors go all in, R Governors are more circumspect, ALL (except two) are in consensus it is right and proper to suspend liberty at central government executive discretion .

And ultimately the first one to do so, who got us all to accept it - was Donald John Trump.

Debbie and Aqua, I agree and disagree. My point is, more or less, I prefer and back a semi-Modernist, true yet flawed, Catholic Pope Benedict XVI (I wished Benedict was Pope Pius X, but he isn't.) to a Modernist Francis. I prefer and back a semi to possible full-believer in the vaccine who would allow us to choose to take it or not take it and who used Title X against Planned Parenthood to an apparent Socialist stooge of the Deep State and China who also holds a fraud presidency, that will increase funds for Planned Parenthood, who may want if he had enough political strength to force us all to take the vaccine by pure brute tyrannical government mandate.

On the lockdowns, you have Donald Trump who wanted to open up and you have Joe Biden as well as friends who want apparently forever lockdowns and forever "suspend[ing of] liberty."

As a side note, I loved your Kabuki theater analogy despite not totally agreeing with it. Here is Urban Dictionary's explanation it:
