"You are in that particular attitude in which the subject, when he thinks of anything, never thinks of the center of anything. You see only edges eaten away. Your malady is the opposite to mine, to which you call making a tiger out of a cat, or what some call making a mountain out of a molehill. You do not go on and make the cat more of a cat; you are always trying to work back and prove that it is less than a cat; that it is a defective cat or a mentally deficient cat. But a cat is a cat; that is the supreme sanity which is so thickly clouded in your mind. After all, a molehill is a hill and a mountain is a hill. But you have got into the state of the mad queen, who said she knew hills compared with which this was a valley. You can’t grasp the thing called a thing. Nothing for you has a central stalk of sanity. There is no core to your cosmos." - G. K. Chesterton, The Poet and the Lunatics
The
Catholic Scholar John Rao wrote in my opinion that all "Enlightenment"
Modernists such as Francis and a growing number of conservative
Catholics are denying that there is such a thing as solid objective
reality where you can "grasp the thing called a thing" or objective
truth.
Their independence principle makes them unable to "grasp the thing called a thing." They are like Protestants and eighteen-century "Enlightenment" philosophers who combined in one unfolding process due to "illogical influences" that have slowly brought us Francis's and Joe Biden's independence principle of "Woke"insanity:
"[That] Protestants and eighteen-century philosopes seemed to believe in opposite things... the unmitigated evil of the individual and the later his unmitigated goodness: but this opposition... is due to illogical influences not logical ones."
"In the realm of pure ideas, Protestantism and the Enlightenment... encouraged a principle of independence [which they called "freedom"] an independence from everything that tells him he can be made virtuous... independence from the Church, corporate society, the State and finally from the transcendent God. In fine, it is an independence from the first two incarnational laws. And this principle of independence continues to develop until it 'frees' the individual from the authorities of logic, grammar, past experience, and everything that would mold him and raise him to the society of the Trinity As it develops, it destroys the Third Incarnation, the one that advances the dance of life as a in understanding the truth. The principle does this, not by completely annihilating the dance -- it is more subtle than that -- but by turning it into a danse macbre, and so making it difficult and almost impossible to recognize the horror resulting from the abandonment of the other foundations..."
"... as Protestantism degenerates into the Enlightenment... [is] reference[d] to the independence principle... If there were any obstacles... there was not enough independence." (John Rao, Removing the Blindfold: Nineteenth-Century Catholics and the Myth of Modern Freedom, Page 78-79)
G.K. Chesterton’s book Saint Thomas Aquinas: “The Dumb Ox” shows where the independence principle of "Woke" insanity began:
[T]here was one particular monk, in that Augustinian monastery in the German forests, who may be said to have had a single and special talent for emphasis; for emphasis and nothing except emphasis; for emphasis with the quality of earthquake. He was the son of a slatecutter; a man with a great voice and a certain volume of personality; brooding, sincere, decidedly morbid; and his name was Martin Luther. Neither Augustine nor the Augustinians would have desired to see the day of that vindication of the Augustinian tradition; but it one sense, perhaps, the Augustinian tradition was avenged after all.
... It had one theory that was the destruction of all theories; in fact it had its own theology which was itself the death of theology. Man could say nothing to God, nothing from God, nothing about God, except an almost inarticulate cry for mercy and for the supernatural help of Christ, in a world where all nature things were useless. Reason was useless. Will was useless. Man could not move himself an inch any more than a stone. Man could not trust what was in his head any more than a turnip. Nothing remained in earth or heaven, but the name of Christ lifte in that lonely imprecation; awful as the cry of a beast in pain.
... The Protestant theology of Martin Luther was a thing that no modern Protestant would be seen dead in a field with; or if the phrase be too flippant, would be specially anxious to touch with a bargepole. That Protestantism was pessimism. (Page 193-194)
But slowly the Protestant Lutheran idea of the independence principle was taken up by the "Enlightenment" Protestant and Catholic Modernists who rejected Luther's idea of "the unmitigated evil of the individual" for the idea of "his unmitigated goodness" within the the principle of independence.
All Modernists and Francis would not agree with Luther's image of imputed grace that man was a pile of dung covered with snow.
Protestant "justification" for him was totally corrupted man being
covered by grace and unfree because of his corruption to fulfill the
moral law. However, man was free to "encouraged a principle
of independence [which they called "freedom"] an independence from
everything that tells him he can be made virtuous... independence from
the Church."
Yet, Francis referring to Luther said:
"Lutherans and Catholics, Protestants, all of us agree on the doctrine
of justification. On this point, which is very important, he did not
err." (patheos.com/blog/scotticalt, "Pope Francis is Wrong about Luther
and Justification," April 5, 2017)
Theologian Dr. E. Christian Brugger and First Thing editor Elliott Milco
appear to agree that Francis's grace/justification teachings in Amoris Laetitia
and his Argentine letter apparently are condemned as heretical by the
Council of Trent.
Milco in his article "Francis's Argentine Letter And The Proper
Response" counters Francis's seeming idea of grace with the infallible Catholic
teaching which says:
Trent's doctrine of infused grace said "that graces truly sanctify and
liberates, and that baptized Christians are always free to fulfill the
moral law, even when they fail to do so."
If Francis disagrees with Luther that humans are totally evil then it means that he appears to agree with Luther as the "Enlightenment" did with the independence principle. It appears he is saying with Amoris Laetitia that he agrees with Luther's principle of independence. Remember what Rao wrote:
"In the realm of pure ideas, Protestantism and the Enlightenment...
encouraged a principle of independence [which they called "freedom"] an
independence from everything that tells him he can be made virtuous...
independence from the Church, corporate society, the State and finally
from the transcendent God. And this principle of independence continues to develop until it
'frees' the individual from the authorities of logic, grammar, past
experience, and everything that would mold him and raise him to the
society of the Trinity As it develops, it destroys the Third
Incarnation, the one that advances the dance of life as a in
understanding the truth."
If the above is correct, then Francis's apparent heresy is denying the very concept of Catholic sanctifying
grace and justification. It will lead to apostasy and will destroy the
vast majority of Catholicism like it did European Protestantism which
became the "Enlightenment" then Atheistic Marxism and now finally
Francis's and Joe Biden's independence principle of "Woke" insanity.
Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He want you to do next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost - Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.
Francis Notes:
- Doctor
of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt
the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church
in such a situation:
"[T]he Pope... WHEN he is EXPLICITLY a heretic, he falls ipso facto from his dignity and out of the Church, and the Church MUST either deprive him, or, as some say, declare him deprived, of his Apostolic See."
(The Catholic Controversy, by St. Francis de Sales, Pages 305-306)
Saint Robert Bellarmine, also, said "the Pope heretic is not deposed ipso facto, but must be declared deposed by the Church."
