By Mary's Secretary
In my book The Practice of the Presence of Mary: To Live and Die with Mary, I dedicated Part II to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Her scapular (fitting as Her feast is approaching), and I specifically mentioned how the scapular and spaghetti straps DO NOT go together. What I mean by that is I have noticed that those in the Church who DO NOT follow the Catholic dress code typically aren’t the ones wearing the scapular. I went on to say that modesty and the scapular go together and if you ever were immodest in dress, the scapular, being Our Lady’s sacramental that it is, gives one the grace to BECOME modest.
I can attest to this in my own life. Only after I was enrolled in the scapular did I begin, little by little, become modest. It’s a process. Kind of like the rosary quote, “one either gives up the sin or they give up the rosary.” Well, “either one gives up the scapular or they give up immodesty”. The point is they cannot coexist. In fact, I can confidently say that the times in my life where I failed in modesty were when I didn’t wear the scapular and miraculous medal.
Fast forward: Today Timothy Gordan, Rules for Retrogrades podcast, Father of seven children and husband to Stephanie Gordan did a livestream on the purging being done over at LifeSiteNews with the suspicious loss of CEO John Henry. From the get-go I should say I’m not a super big Tim fan, I tune in every once in a while if he covers a topic of interest but I find his theology kind of weird, and haven’t had a genuine opinion of him, until today.
My first reaction of today’s show was one of surprise that his wife Stephanie was wearing a tank top. About a week or so ago Tim was also wearing an off putting immodest muscle UCLA shirt showing his bare arms and tattoos (see attached). It was just unbefitting coming from a show that preaches tradition. I scrolled through the comment section for today’s live stream and I saw a woman voice the same opinion I was thinking. I want you to read through these screenshots and tell me if you think Tim sounds totally unhinged and cruel to this lady? I jumped in (LambsCanticles) and just look at his vocabulary and… insanity? Tim called me a “dumba**”, went on to use the “F” word, told us to “get lost” and called this lady fat, that she could “lose 45 pounds and that gluttony is a sin.” He said all this only by her simple profile picture (you can see in the attached) of her face. Just a picture of her smiling. He then went on a wild tangent about this poor lady “playing the victim” when she only… asked him a logical question?
To my utter dismay people gave his cruel comments a “thumbs up”. He kept bashing this lady’s weight by saying her “gluttony” was a sin, deflecting away from his wife’s immodest clothing. First off, if someone is ever overweight, to assume it’s because they are gluttonous is laughable. Everyone knows that genes play a role! What I’m getting at, though, is that Tim Gordon showed colors I did not expect. And I think they are his true colors. To the point where I was baffled this person was ever a professor in Rome, as he often brags about his many credentials, and I wonder how he treats his friends and family with the short fuse he has just based on how he talks to his audience.
Modesty is also a fruit of the Holy Ghost. It’s not merely about dress but about BEHAVIOR. Saying only what is necessary about oneself. Do Tim’s inner and outer behavior (or dress) not seem totally alien to the Magnificat? My biggest problem with today’s Catholic podcasters are how many of them try way too hard to be “cool” (whatever that even means) by puffing their cigars because apparently having a theological discussion without tons of smoke 💨 isn’t appealing to the world. Tim Gordon’s muscle T shirt while talking about the sacred, and use of cuss words are another great example. Father Ripperger once said that the men who play their music extra loud because they try to appear manly, are actually ironically effeminate.
What I’m trying to relay here is that Catholic podcasters today have let the world affect THEM, rather than living in the world and not of it. These supposed trad cats walk around trying to be fashionable with their sunglasses and pose as if they are models. It’s so gross and unholy. People like this think they are fixing problems in the Church, looking “hip and cool” (when they really just look dorky) and don’t realize that they are the problem. They have one foot in tradition and the other in the world. But that is what happened after Vatican II; especially in the religious life. It all became a clown show. Apocalypse 11 is such a powerful testimony of true holiness. When Elijah and Henoch return they will preach in simple sackcloth and according to Father Leonard Herman Kramer (not to mistake dear Father Paul Kramer), they will convert people due to their humble clothing. THEY are my true heroes. So unrelatable, of course but simply what I call pure holiness. THAT is what I want to follow. Stephanie, Tim’s wife, made a cringy statement when they were answering the chat at the end of the video and she said, “you need to go find yourself a girl.” Again, statements like this are just steeped in worldliness and “trying to be cool” and appeal to a certain crowd. But what crowd are they appealing to exactly? When someone commented and said Tim should tone down his bad language, he replied, “this isn’t a show for children.”
But I thought it was a show for Catholics, no?
We have removed modest behavior and dress from even discussions of the sacred, and I’m just over these uncharitable ego driven phonies. No matter how many followers these Catholic podcasters gain, God will not bless such behavior; therefore, He will not bless their podcast. These so called “hip” podcasts, like the New Mass, are MANCENTRIC and not GODCENTRIC. We have been told that dumbing ourselves down and “meeting people where they are at”(that’s been totally distorted by the way) will somehow make us look relatable. But the thing is… the saints ARN’T meant to be relatable. That’s kind of the point. They are meant to be OUR MODELS. They weren’t of this world AT ALL and they didn’t pretend to be. And that’s because true holiness is irresistible. True saints don’t take selfies. Even if the saints in the pre tech days had phones, I guarantee you they wouldn’t take them, either. In fact, I’ll never forget a list of ten guidelines from a priest about what not to do with technology and one of them was “don’t take selfies EVER.” The last time I took a genuine selfie was about ten years ago. Think about it: “SELFie.” It’s all about SELF. Not relatable? That’s because that’s the point. It’s not supposed to be. Stop taking selfies and see how much just that one act alone leads to sainthood. Imagine Elijah and Henoch stopping to pose for a selfie while combatting anti christ? Yeah, me neither. And I love them all the more for that reason! They don’t need to let the whole world know their good deeds.
Think of John 12:19,
“The Pharisees therefore said among themselves: Do you see that we prevail nothing? Behold, the whole world is gone after Him.”
They went after Him because He had both feet firmly planted in the Heavenly Jerusalem. HE WAS IRRESISTIBLE, and didn’t affirm people’s sin, try to be “relatable” but said, “sin no more”. Our Lord didn’t have to preach to the multitudes with a pipe and a beer. At Fatima, Mary warned that “Certain fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much.” And She also issued a direct warning to women, saying: “Woe to women lacking in modesty.” The CHURCH HAS NO FASHIONS, Mary said. Jacinta said, “People should not follow fashions. Our Lord is always the same…If men only knew what awaits them in eternity, they would do everything in their power to change their lives.” These fashions can also include weird behaviors like selfies and talking about holy stuff behind a cloud of smoke. Cough, cough Michael Knowles.
“If an immodest woman causes a hundred sins of lust in men, she has committed a hundred mortal sins.” St. Paul says, ”The immodest…shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Gal. 5:19-21.
My Grammie is the best. When I told her how Tim reacted to that lady’s comment, she said, “attack the theology, NOT the person.” I always know someone doesn’t have an argument when they resort to name calling. Main examples:
“You’re a sedevacantist”
“You’re a conspiracy theorist”
In Tim’s case… “you’re fat”
Okay? But can you debate the substance argument without resorting to ad hominem attacks?
I recently heard how the best thing for the soul is criticism. And the most dangerous is flattery. People are conflating “meeting people where they are at” with accepting the sin rather than correcting it. But NOT the kind of criticism that Tim gave today. In fact, it was evident that he was unhinged, ego driven and was angry that another Catholic dare voice her opinion. He even blamed her comment on her being a woman. He deflected, virtue signaled and projected his error onto this poor Catholic lady, whose mature response to him was praiseworthy. This got me to do some digging and I found a TIMELY document, today. In January 1930, under the mandate of Pope Pius XI, the Sacred Congregation of the Council issued instructions to all bishops outlining modesty standards for dress. These instructions stated that a dress could not be considered decent if it was cut deeper than two fingers' breadth below the pit of the throat, did not cover the arms at least to the elbows, and barely reached beyond the knees.

I saw someone comment in defense of Gordon called “tradcat” (wrong name in this instance, my friend) that we need to “stop clutching our pearls” because Stephanie was dressed perfectly fine. Welp, not according to Pope Pius XI’s rule of modesty and Our Lady of Fatima. So, I’ll keep clutching my pearls. They’re priceless. Like my soul. And may I reinforce, apparently this document and statement by a Pope has been the most authoritative on the subject of modesty and no Pope has modified or changed it. One also cannot enter Saint Peter’s Basilica without meeting the dress code requirements. Today it’s all about “but that wasn’t my intension”. Doesn’t matter what the intention is. We have rules and all we have to do is abide by them. It has nothing to do with how you feel 😒. Most of us know little Ben Shapiro’s “facts don’t care about your feelings”; well, in Tim’s case it’s “his feelings don’t care about the facts.” The laws don’t care about Tim Gordon’s feelings or those other commenters coming to his defense. Tim’s emotional reply today proved this. His reaction was almost demonic if you ask me, and it led me to actually question if he is a fraud. I don’t say such a thing lightly. The lack of charity was astounding!
I talk about this frequently, with how ALL IS CHARITY, and if you want a status update on your own charity or that of another, see how they react to criticism. We Catholics have a duty to correct each other in sin because that is what true charity looks like. Paul corrected Peter. Some of the most formative instances in my life were when I was corrected. There are times I handle it well, and there are times I have cried because my ego was wounded. There’s always a way to speak the truth and to do it with compassion and empathy. We need to restore the proper balance of following the law guided by the Holy Ghost AND loving God and our neighbor. If we only have the law and not charity, we are Pharisees. If we only have charity and not the law, we are hippies. Like God’s mercy being perfectly linked to His justice, His charity is perfectly linked to His law. After all, “charity is the fulfillment of the law”. I sincerely hope Tim Gordon finds this balance!
Pray an Our Father now for reparation for the sins committed because of Francis’s Amoris Laetitia.
Pray an Our Father now for the restoration of the Church.
Stop for a moment of silence, ask Jesus Christ what He wants you to do now and next. In this silence remember God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Three Divine Persons yet One God, has an ordered universe where you can know truth and falsehood as well as never forget that He wants you to have eternal happiness with Him as his son or daughter by grace. Make this a practice. By doing this you are doing more good than reading anything here or anywhere else on the Internet.

Francis Notes:
– Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales totally confirmed beyond any doubt the possibility of a heretical pope and what must be done by the Church in such a situation:
“[T]he Pope… WHEN he is EXPLICITLY a heretic, he falls ipso facto from his dignity and out of the Church, and the Church MUST either deprive him, or, as some say, declare him deprived, of his Apostolic See.”
(The Catholic Controversy, by St. Francis de Sales, Pages 305-306)
Saint Robert Bellarmine, also, said “the Pope heretic is not deposed ipso facto, but must be declared deposed by the Church.”
