"EXCLUSIVE: Nationwide Surge In Deaths Among People Aged 18-49": Is the Reason Biden's Border Control "Failure" resulting "in Record Levels of... Fentanyl" Deaths according to Sen. Portman?
Today, in an updated article The Epoch Times in an exclusive report revealed a "Nationwide Surge In Deaths Among People Aged 18-49":
Deaths among people aged 18 to 49 increased more than 40 percent in the 12 months ending October 2021 compared to the same period in 2018–2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an analysis of death certificate data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by The Epoch Times.
The agency doesn’t yet have full 2021 numbers, as death certificate data trickles in with a lag of one to eight weeks or more.
The increase was notable across the country and in no state was COVID reported in more than 60 percent of the excess deaths. Some states experienced much steeper hikes than others...
... It’s not clear why the mortality spike seemed to exhibit a geographical trend. Overall, a part of the surge could be likely blamed on drug overdoses, which increased to more than 101,000 in the 12 months ending June 2021 from about 72,000 in 2019, the CDC estimated. About two-thirds of those deaths involved synthetic opioids including fentanyl that are often smuggled to the United States from China through Mexico.
For those ages 50 to 84, mortality went up more than 27 percent, representing more than 470,000 excess deaths. Almost four out of five of the deaths had COVID marked on the death certificate as the cause or a contributing factor. The Epoch Times article did a "A State by State Overview: Highest state sees 65 percent increase in prime-age mortality, only 36 percent attributed to COVID-19" which indicted there might be a pure COVID vaccine connection, but The Catholic Monitor in a brief data search found that the highly vaccinated (67.8%) "New Hampshire [having] no mortality increase and no COVID deaths in this age group" seemed to show there may be other reasons involved in the "surge in deaths" in this age group. This seemed to be similar to other state by state vaccination rates in connection to the death surge in this age group. The article mentioned fentanyl as a possible other cause for the death surge:
"Overall, a part of the surge could be likely blamed on drug overdoses, which increased to more than 101,000 in the 12 months ending June 2021 from about 72,000 in 2019, the CDC estimated. About two-thirds of those deaths involved synthetic opioids including fentanyl that are often smuggled to the United States from China through Mexico."
In December, in an interview with Senator Rob Portman, Fox News reported that Joe Biden's border control "failure" could be a cause:
"In an interview with Fox News’ Kelly Laco, Senator Portman discussed, in detail, the worsening drug and addiction crisis in the United States. Portman highlighted that the failure of the Biden administration to control our southern border has resulted in record levels of deadly fentanyl coming into our country, leading to more American lives lost and families devastated, and contributing to the strength of Mexican transnational criminal organizations. Earlier this month, Portman released a statement on the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operational statistics ,which show a 42 percent increase in fentanyl seizures at the southern border from September to October. Recently, the CDC released preliminary data showing that from April 2020 to April 2021, drug overdose deaths in the United States rose to a record more than 100,000." Sen. Portman's released statement said:
Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released operational statistics showing a record number of border arrests in October as the United States continues to face a crisis at our southern border:
“I am alarmed that the October CBP operational statistics show that our nation saw the worst October on record as the unlawful migration crisis of the Biden administration’s own doing continues. CBP reported more than 164,000 total encounters at the border in October. This includes more than 42,000 migrant family members; more than 108,000 single adult migrants, which comprised two-thirds of all encounters; and more than 12,000 unaccompanied children.
“The surge in illicit narcotics coming over our border also continue to rise, with seizures of fentanyl increasing 42 percent over the last month. As recent CDC data has shown, these illicit narcotics, including deadly fentanyl, are taking a record number of lives in communities in Ohio and across our country. The failure of this administration to control our southern border has resulted in record levels of deadly fentanyl coming into our country, leading to more American lives being lost, families devastated, and which has contributed to the growing strength of Mexican transnational criminal organizations.” [https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/media/minority-media/portman-october-cbp-operational-stats-show-record-number-of-border-arrests]
