In the readings from that gray day of Benedict's funeral earlier this year, the Mass showed the readings from Isaiah 29:16-19 and 1 Peter 1:3-9. In them, we can reflect that there is consternation, sadness, mourning; In a certain time, however, there will be a revival in faith. And it was nothing by chance. On this same day it was full of signs: in St. Peter's Square also black birds that flew and also a shining cross in the sky. We can conclude, if we have faith, that God has thus spoken about his Church. So, "In this you rejoice, though now, for a time, you must be mourned by all kinds of trials. It turns out that it can be proved that the faith you have, far more valuable than the gold that perishes, even if refined by fire, is genuine and will result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed" (I Peter, 6-7).
