I firmly believe the Novus Ordo Mass will one day disappear. The numbers are in. The only places where it is growing is where it’s being celebrated in the most traditional (Tridentine) way possible. If that’s the case, why not just go back to the original?
For the time being, the Novus Ordo Mass is merely kept alive (on life support), by an aging generation of bishops who refuse to let it go.
The younger generation of clergy and laity have spoken. They want the 1962 Missal. They want it in both Latin and vernacular translations. They want all the tradition, pomp and circumstance of the Tridentine Roman Rite. At this point, they’re just waiting for this old generation of clerics to die off so the real reforms can begin.
