Maduro's Troops "'are Killing the Indigenous on their Land'" as Tribal Leaders flee facing "'War... Orders to Fire at us'""
The Guardian reported that Nicolas Maduro's troops on Friday opened gunfire on protesters injuring many indigenous people and "killed a Pemon [indigenous] woman, Zoraida Rodriguez, after pro-opposition [indigenous] protesters tried to stop their convoy passing."
Cartographer Salomon Martinez traveling with with Pemon injured because "several of his relatives were hit" said:
"We want the world to know what is happening, that the blood of Venezuelan people is being spilled and the government is trying to hide it... They are killing the Indigenous on their land."
(The Guardian, "'Venezuelan blood is being spilled': tensions flares near border with Brazil," February 24, 2019)
The article reported that three people "were killed and more than 20 injured" as the Pemon tribal leaders are fleeing for their lives. "Candy, a leader of the indigenous Pemon Territorial Guard, told the Guardian":
"I am protecting the mayor and indigenous leaders... This flight into the forest isn't some kind of protest. It's war that they launched, they have orders to fire at us, whoever we are."
"I don't know if we are equipped to face them. And they want the mayor (of Gran Santana) dead or alive, they have given the order."
Moreover, in another incident "outside the Roraima base," the prominent Venezuelan human rights organization "Foro Penal, said it believed four people were killed. The opposition described the bloodshed as a massacre" according to the Guardian.
I am from New Mexico, my grandmother was indigenous, my DNA test shows I am more than 25℅ indigenous, and it makes my blood boil to see the international community and Pope Francis just standing by in silence as indigenous people or any people are being hunted down on their own land.
Pray an Our Father now for the restoration of the Church, the safety of the Pemon people and that the Maduro tyranny be ended.
