Feser: "[R]hetoric of human dignity has now gone too far is that it has led the highest authorities in the Church to contradict the teaching of the word of God itself (on the topic of the death penalty)"

Can the DDF Declaration be saved from the charge that it contradicts scripture & tradition on the death penalty? Do the defenses of the phrase “infinite dignity” that some have proposed succeed? No and no. “Two problems w/ Dignitas Infinita," at the blog: edwardfeser.blogspot.com/2024/04/two-pr

One problem with that is that the Church holds that scripture cannot teach error on a matter of faith or morals. So, this attempt to get around the difficulty would be heterodox. But another problem is that this move would undermine the Declaration's own use of these scriptural texts.8 hours ago

Any attempt to circumvent this pontificate with the magisterium of the Church will always be in vain. This is reminiscent of that parable of the new patch on old cloth (Matthew 9:16-17). Bergoglio mocks the infallibility of a legitimate Roman Pontiff and continues to destroy the image of the Church. He knows he is not Pope.
