I think that the clashes between prelates and influential laity in the Catholic world over the crisis provoked by Bergoglio should be questioned a lot, but there is one very important fact being overlooked. There are questions among the same influential Catholics about his munus in the Church with various suggestions: universal acceptance, his misunderstanding of the Petrine munus, an imperfect council to judge him, an emergency suspension against him, etc. What strikes me most is not so much all this, but the need for the continuity of the papacy. The Universi Dominici Gregis says that the pope must abdicate the Petrine munus, but this required abdication was never made by Ratzinger. And Bergoglio was elected without the Petrine munus required by the same apostolic constitution. Thus Benedict XVI died while still pope on the last day of last year (this fact is about to complete a year ago). The Church today has the See of Rome vacant, but this important fact is still overlooked. The Universi Dominici Gregis places importance above any council or synod for the continuity of the papacy. Could it be that the continuity of Peter's pontificate is not above all this? If there is no longer a pope today, then there will be another Church tomorrow. There is no way for any Catholic to remedy this lapse, a continuity with a pope today without a Petrine office. And no one has the authority to convoke the next conclave, as the same
