Francis who was "widely viewed as close to the young [pedophile] priest" Father Julio César Grassi and helped him with a "document" that "helped Grassi avoid jail' and the "document," also, 'helped" or "[allowed] him to continue residing across the street from the classroom and dormitories of Happy Children" where he had abused a "boy":
"The case of Father Grassi has been particularly troublesome to children’s advocates here because Bergoglio was widely viewed as close to the young priest, who told reporters before his conviction that he spoke with Bergoglio often and that the archbishop 'never let go of my hand.'”
"Grassi was not expelled from the priesthood after the guilty verdict. Instead, church officials led by Bergoglio commissioned a lengthy private report arguing that Grassi was innocent."
"The report was submitted as part of the priest’s legal appeal, which is pending, and prosecutors say the document has helped Grassi avoid jail time so far. A court has granted him a provisional release that allows him to continue residing across the street from the classroom and dormitories of Happy Children."

The BBC reported on September 24, 2013, that the "out of control" pedophile Grassi, despite Bergoglio's best efforts to allow the predator to remain free, was jailed. Prosecutor Alejandro Varela, by implication, said that Bergoglio's efforts to free the predator were "almost like colluding with his crime":
"A court in Buenos Aires province rejected an appeal by Father Julio Cesar Grassi, who has been sentenced to 15 years in jail, to remain under house arrest."
"He was convicted in 2009 of abusing the boy at his 'Happy Children' foundation."
'... Prosecutor Alejandro Varela argued that there was a risk that the priest would escape if he was not detained."
"Three courts in Argentina had already confirmed his 2009 conviction, before the Supreme Court of Buenos Aires province ratified the 15-year prison sentence last week."
"'To leave Grassi free is almost like colluding with his crime,' said Mr Varela."
"... A lawyer for the prosecution, Juan Pablo Gallego, described him as 'a convicted paedophile, who is out of control'."
